CLOSING CEREMONY XIII International Film Festival “Eurasia”
July 28, 2017 at 18:00 at the Central Concert Hall “Kazakhstan” (pr. Mangilik Eating, 10/1) held the closing ceremony of
XIII International Film Festival “Eurasia”.
The event will be attended by Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Muhamediuly, president of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Ayman Musahadzhaeva, American theater and film actor, screenwriter, producer, film director, a nominee for the Academy Award John Malkovich, the Russian film and theater actor Yegor Beroev, film director , producer, chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Kyrgyzstan Sadyk Sherniyaz, director of the Center for Cinematography of Georgia Zurab Magalashvili, Russian actress Sophia Kashtanova, intellectuals and youth.
A festive concert will be held for all the participants of the ceremonial closing with the participation of Kazakh pop stars.
At the end of the event, the film of the famous American director Luc Besson will be screened – Valerian and the city of a thousand planets. We will notice that the film will be shown to spectators in the Kazakh language.

This is the second roundtable in history dedicated to this topic. July 25, 2017 in the cinema Chaplin Cinema (Mega Silk Way) was shown a children’s film “Mr. Frog”, production – Norway. The peculiarity of this show is that about 100 children from socially vulnerable sections of the population who are now in the children’s summer camp “Zhas Shuyak” came to see the film. In July 26, 2017 in the N. Nazarbayev International Airport a well-known Hollywood actor, producer and director John Malkovich has arrived in Astana.

At the film market, about 60 foreign and more than 100 guests from Kazakhstan were registered. In the film market, 21 booths of foreign companies and 27 Kazakhstani companies took part.

One of the most important events in the film market is the “Showcase” program, in which 8 films were presented at the final stage.

“We always try to invite foreign guests with high status in the world cinema to the jury,” Anna Kachko, director of Eurasia Spotlight, said in her speech.

Today, (July 25, 2017) in the cinema Chaplin Cinemas (Mega Silk Way) a press conference was held with the participation of the directors of the films “Oralman”, “We”, which was shown yesterday. The well-known Kazakh filmmaker Yermek Shinarbayev was the moderator. “Aerobatics is when you” sold “your film at the idea stage” – so well-known Russian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and writer told how they started shooting the film “The Secret of the Seal of the Dragon: Journey to China”. The audience was shown a terrific trailer for the future film. The creative evening “Co-production with China” of the famous producer Alexei Petrukhin was one of the best and a meeting with the well-known producer of the film “Viy”, which took place in MEGA Silk Way, caused a stir among the listeners who were showered with questions of the Russian guest.
The Russian producer told how he managed to attract Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the shooting: “I managed to do it in one minute,” Petrukhin said with a smile. As he admitted, he was short of time.
Alexei Petrukhin shared his thoughts and ideas about the film industry and cinema in general. “The movie starts with an idea,” he said, refuting the postulate that a good script is needed to start. He also reported on the development of the film market, which seeks outlets to other countries, including the way to Kazakhstan cinema.

Talking about how the films were created, the director noted that it is important that as many viewers as possible know about the history of the film. “Eurasia is the largest film forum in Central Asia, accredited by the International Federation of Producers Associations (FIAPF), along with such “A” class festivals as Cannes, Berlin and Venice,” Almaz Nurazkhan, the Director of Department for Culture and Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan said in his speech. “The theme of the current film festival is “Connecting cultures” and it is in line with the concept of the International Exhibition “Astana Expo 2017,” he added.
This year Eurasia Film Festival will present an extensive world panorama of films created in 2016-2017. The competitive and non-competitive sections will include full and short films, art and genre cinemas. This year’s record number of films is 296, of which 101 film will be presented in the main “Eurasia” program, at that 12 films will be shown within the main competition of feature films and 30 films – in the competition of shorts. In general, 14 world premiers, 2 international premiers, and 11 Asian premiers are represented in feature films and shorts competition. In total, more than 1,000 applications were submitted for the Eurasia Film Festival, which were received through the Film Festival website.
The entire competition program will be evaluated by four panels of judges: the main jury, the shorts jury and two independent juries – FIPRESCI (International Association of Film Critics and Film Experts) and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema).
Film Festival Jury included famous filmmakers who were annouced on the briefing by Talgat Temenov, the Kazakhstan Director and Playwright, representing the “Eurasia” Jury. Thus, Kirill Razlogov, the Film and Culture Expert, director of the programs of the Moscow International Film Festival, is the chairman of the main competition jury this year. The films will also be evaluated by the Hollywood “Star” Bai Ling, known by such films as “Red Corner”, “Anna and the King”, “Edmond”, Film Director and Screenwriter from Georgia Russudan Glurjidze, who received last year a “Eurasia” Grand Prix for the film “House of others”, Azerbaijan Director Elchin Musaoglu, who won an award in 2015 at Eurasia IFF for the film “Nabat” for “Best stage direction”, and award winner of the Cannes Film Festival, the legend – Souleymane Cissé from Mali.
As far as the program itself is concerned, the organizers of the film festival have produced many surprises for viewers. “Within “Eurasia” Film Forum there will be the “Five Continents” Competition of films for kids as well as «6 Plaza» program of the developing countries arranged in cooperation with Expo-2017,” told the Program Director of the “Eurasia” IFF, Yelena Larionova at briefing, “Films from Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Turkic-speaking countries will be also screened for “Tulpar” National Award in the area of cinematography”.
The world premieres are waiting for viewers to open and close the film festival. This year “Eurasia” will be opened by the film “Sound of Silence” (India, 2017), directed by Bijukumar Damodaran. Film Festival will be closed by the stunning new film of Luc Besson “Valerian and the City of Thousands Planets”, 2017. As Yelena Larionova noted, the uniqueness of this film exhibition is that, for the first time at Eurasia Film Festival, a foreign film of closing will be duplicated in the Kazakh language.
Another feature of XIII Eurasia International Film Festival – is Eurasia Film Market, which will be held for the first time in the history of the film festival in conjunction with Eurasia Spotlight business platform.“This year Eurasia Spotlight will be held in Astana in conjunction with the first international film market Eurasia Film Market.” – told Rashid Nugmanov, the Director General of Eurasia IFF, – Eurasian film market will gather in Astana the buyers and right holders of the content, distributors, sales agents to exchange experiences and share their views on the future of cinema business in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The main theme of film market will be a “Digital Path” in line with the concept of “Digital Kazakhstan”.
World celebrities will also attend the film festival. Among the foreign guests of “Eurasia” there will be such Hollywood super stars, the winners of the Oscar and the Golden Globe Awards as Nicolas Cage, John Málkovich and Adrien Brody, American actress Bai Ling, the largest actor in the festival movement, producer Marco Müller, the winner of the Cannes Film Festival Souleymane Cissé.
It is to be recalled that XIII Eurasia International Film Festival is organized by the National Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences NGO, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

XIII Eurasia International Film Festival will be held in Astana.
Astana (Kazakhstan) will be hosting the XIII Eurasia International Film Festival from 22nd to 28th of July 2017, which is the largest film forum in Central Asia accredited by the International Federation of Producer Associations (FIAPF) along with such Class “A” Festivals as Cannes, Berlin and Venice. In 2012, the International Film Guide (UK) included the Eurasia IFF in the list of 35 leading world festivals.
The 13th of the Eurasia Film Festival deals in its program with the theme “Bridge of Cultures”, which is in line with the concept of “Astana Expo-2017” International Exhibition, a world-wide event that takes place at the same time in the capital of Kazakhstan.
